Snow Much Fun! The 2012 Whistler Telemark Festival, Canada
Posted: January 13th, 2012 | Author: Shayne Kasai | Filed under: Festivals | What do you think?Well, what a great season we’re having here in British Columbia! The snow has finally started to dump in the interior and now the coast is beginning to ramp up on the snowmaking front as well. In addition to this, something spectacular is happening here – it seems like the telemark community is beginning to grow! At least, I’m seeing more of you knee droppers on the hill, so something is working.
It gets better: this year, there will be a telemark festival at Whistler! For those of you unfamiliar with this resort, the area is actually made up of two very large ski hills (Whistler and Blackcomb) connected by one long gondola. Needless to say, those of you who like long runs will enjoy going telemark skiing down a glacier bowl back down to the village… but not after passing through several lifts and lodges on the way. This place is big.
$10 entry will get you into the BC Telemark Ski Association and then you’ll need to pay for a lift ticket at 50% off, which, for those of you who don’t know, is a big deal (you get to play on two mountains)!
I’ll be dropping turns in a clinic or two and hovering about – so come say hello (and ask for a free sticker)! We’ll update this post as we get more information about the event.
